Established in March 2016, the Alderney Bird Observatory (ABO) is the Channel Islands’ only bird observatory and the twentieth to join the network of British Bird Observatories. It is also the southernmost in the United Kingdom. Like other British bird observatories, its primary purpose is to conduct long-term monitoring of bird populations and migrations, helping to chart the changing fortunes of species across Europe’s busy flyways.
This special issue of six commemorative stamps depicts some of the rarer species among those 317 recorded bird species, showcasing Alderney’s remarkable diversity and its role in global bird migration.
