Mischievous Seagulls depicted on Guernsey Stamps
Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau announces that it will issue four stamps depicting light-hearted illustrations of mischievous, opportunistic seagulls who seize every opportunity to sample local Guernsey delicacies.
Created by talented Guernsey artist James Colmer, the stamps form part of a joint issue with SEPAC (Small European Postal Administration Cooperation) for its 2022 theme Local Beverages (issue date: 22 June 2022).
The stamps: -
52p - An opportunistic seagull has stolen a slice of Guernsey Gâche to share with his partner in crime.
79p - Always looking for an easy meal, this seagull has stolen a mackerel from an unsuspecting Guernsey fisherman.
£1.10 - This audacious seagull takes a sip from a sunbather’s drink can. This stamp bears the SEPAC logo and the colours of the can are similar to that of a locally produced beverage.
£1.35 - Cooling down with ice-cream provided by a generous human!
Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: - “Seagulls will scavenge for almost anything they can get their beaks on. They are a common sight in Guernsey but an unwelcome addition to anyone’s picnic! Artist James Colmer has injected good humour into the stamps whilst drawing inspiration from typical Guernsey coastal scenes.”
