The issue depicts them both individually and as a couple and features images of their marble busts in white against a rich black background, carved in 1855 by Joseph Durham.

When researching the imagery to feature on the stamps, we discovered that the first photographic portrait of Prince Albert dates from 1842, while the earliest photograph of Queen Victoria (a double portrait with the Princess Royal) was taken by the painter Henry Collen around 1844,
