2013 Yearbook

For immediate release   25 November 2013

Guernsey Post is delighted to announce that its 2013 Yearbook is now available to purchase.

In glorious full colour, the 44-page Yearbook brings together a mint condition set of every stamp issue and miniature sheet issued for Guernsey and Alderney in 2013, as well as additional photographs and fascinating text about every issue. [how many are printed?  Just wondered whether we could play on their ‘exclusivity’?]

2013 saw the release of the Giant Panda issue as part of Guernsey Post’s highly collectable Endangered Species collection.  Staying with the same theme, issues were also produced to pay homage to the Island’s wildlife with the striking Alderney Beetles stamps.

Also included in the 2013 programme was an exciting new product for Guernsey Post in the form of its Marine Life issue, which literally brought the Bailiwick’s underwater creatures to life through a unique augmented reality miniature sheet stamp.

Celebratory issues in this year’s programme have included the Life of Beatrix Potter, one of the world’s best known children’s authors, and world-renowned Clematis grower Raymond Evison, who this year was presented with his 25th gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.  A commemorative stamp set to mark the 200th anniversary of The Guernsey Press and Star serving the island was also issued.

The attractive hard-backed book also contains stamps with a royal theme; this year Guernsey Post has commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation and the birth of Prince George, which includes a miniature sheet displaying the £3 commemorative stamp.

Turning to Christmas, this year’s festive stamps celebrate much loved Christmas music.  Guernsey’s stamps feature the popular ‘When Santa got stuck up the chimney’, whilst the story of ‘Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’ is depicted across the Alderney issue.

Said Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post: - “We have been creating beautiful, interesting and innovative stamp issues for almost 45 years – and each year we work hard to provide a diverse range of stamps.  Themes this year include topical events and historic occasions – not forgetting the island's wonderful heritage, diverse landscape and flora and fauna which also provide stunning subject matter.

“Priced at £62.79 our Yearbook is the exact value of the stamps it contains, making it excellent value for money and a delightful Christmas present, particularly as the stamps are provided in separate glassine bags so that they can be attached in the affixed mounts at leisure.”
