Guernsey Post is
delighted to announce the
release of a set of stamps depicting aerial island scenes, to reflect this
year’s Spectacular Scenery theme chosen by SEPAC, the Small European Postal Administrations
Co-operation (release date for stamps: 1 August).
The stamp scenes are the work of Elliott
Cockett, a young Guernsey-based photographer known as ‘The Drone Ranger’, who
was able to capture striking aerial shots of the island from an elevated
position.
The stamps: -
46p – Vale Castle sits on a hill on Guernsey’s east coast and overlooks the islands of Herm and Jethou. Archaeological evidence suggests that an Iron Age fort was built on the hilltop around 500 to 600 BC and that the castle itself was built around 1370-1400.
62p – Located on the northwestern coast of Guernsey, Rousse is one of fifteen towers built to defend the island against invasion by France. It has been wonderfully maintained and is complete with replica cannons.
63p – Torteval is the smallest of Guernsey’s ten parishes and is home to Torteval church, which was built in 1816 on the site of the original Church of St Philippe that had fallen into disrepair. It features an unusual round tower with the tallest spire in the island.
76p (SEPAC stamp) – The reservoir at St Saviour’s is an important area due to the freshwater and woodland habitat it provides for local wildlife.
85p – Pembroke is situated at the most northern part of the island and offers clear turquoise waters and one of the longest stretches of powdery white sand beaches on the island.
94p – Beaucette Marina is located on the northeast tip of Guernsey and to the north of Bordeaux Harbour. It was converted from a large quarry with blue granite reserves in 1969.
